Be doers of the word and not hearers only. You sure?

James 1:23-25

23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Sit back, listen to God's word, listen to it again, look into it, listen and look some more and we will be blessed in what we do.

Read the ESV and KJV version of this verse - the more word based than meaning based translations. Does the end of verse 25 mean that our doing (everything that we do) will be blessed? Or is our doing (our enacted action due to hearing) blessed?

Quite debatable i think, unless we are absolutely proficient in biblical greek. Looking at the passage however, it would seem, quite squarely that he did mean "be ye doers of the word".

What I have failed to read (for many years) is that the exhortation to do comes from the perfect law that gives freedom. We do not because we are obliged to, but because we are free to.
